blog：Nine cruise ships to visit Southampton this weekend
Southampton is today enjoying the multi-million pound windfall as the city celebrates one of the busiest weekends for its cruise industry.
A record nine cruise ships and 45,500 passengers will pass through the city throughout today and tomorrow – the most number of passengers during a 48-hour period in recent times.
Together their spending will benefit hundreds of city businesses including hotels, shops, restaurants, coach companies and taxi drivers.
And thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the city for the spectacular sight.
In an added attraction Associated British Ports is offering free open top bus tours of Southampton D o c k s throughout the weekend allowing visitors to get a close up view of the mighty vessels.
And hundreds are also expected to Mayflower Park to catch a glimpse of the liners, including Cunard’s huge 151,400-ton Queen Mary 2, Independence of the Seas, the biggest cruise ship in service and the distinctively shaped Grand Princess.
